Hi-fi revisionism.

Nevermind the last post. I didn't know this performance edit of this video existed; I had never seen it before. The quality of the audio and video is better than the one in the last post, so I've watched this about twelve times, repeatedly marvelling at the greatness of Siamese Dream. It's one of a handful of perfect albums.

(Hey Chris, where does Jimmy Chamberlin rank in your heirarchy of best drummers?)

By the way...that is one of my favorite videos also.

I think Jimmy Chamberlain is an amazing drummer, and perfect for the Pumpkins. He sounds like Keith Moon trying to play jazz...which is excellent. While I do have a lot of respect for him, I cannot say that he was very influential on me...probably mostly cause I've just never had nearly the energy to play like he does...though there a fill he does on a few tunes that I've always tried to play...never been able to nail it. I'm actually gonna edit my influences list cause I realized I left out one important person...but that probably won't happen tonite.

Sigh.

I try to appreciate your music likes... but I just can't. I'm sorry.

Chris: yeah, I've always thought Chamberlain was an interesting player. Lots of little stuff that most drummers wouldn't think to do. For example, listen to the little part between 2:34 to 2:37. Nothing complicated, just inventive. I had just realized his name hadn't come up much; which, in turn, made me realize the Pumpkins are an influence on me moreso as an entity rather than as individuals. I probably wouldn't put Corgan or Iha in my top 20 most influential guitarist list, but the band would definitely find its way into a list of my most influential bands.

And Amy: That's ok. You probably would have had to have been an angst-ridden highschooler at the dawn of the 90's to appreciate most of the stuff I'm posting. Although, I seem to remember that you like Queen. And maybe Jeff Buckley. Besides, our friendship is based on a proper appreciation of Calvin and Hobbes. And a similar worldview. Maybe in that order. I mean, you're an Auburn fan, and we're still friends. ;)
